The weekly retrospective provides a summary of the evolution of acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza (influenza virus) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Trends of the week

COVID-19: increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV): slight increase in the number of RSV cases.

Flu: sharp increase in the number of flu cases.

COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2

For week 50 from December 11 to 17, 2023, the number of people positive for SARS-CoV-2 increases to 790 cases compared to 658 cases the previous week, an increase of 20%.

The positivity rate increases to 30% compared to 28% the previous week. The viral concentration detected in wastewater increases. [1]

The latest available sequencing data shows a preponderance of the BA.2.86 variant (44%) followed by the XBB.1.9 variant (30%). [2]

These data largely overlap with LNS sentinel surveillance which indicates increased circulation of SARS-CoV-2, RSV, influenza virus and rhinovirus. [2]

Virus respiratoire syncytial (RSV)

For week 50 from December 11 to 17, 2023, the number of people positive for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) reported by laboratories increases to 152 cases compared to 134 cases the previous week, an increase of 13%.
