February 28, 2024, 10:22 am

Three official matches were on the agenda for our youth teams and with two wins and one defeat the balance is positive. Below is a brief report of the various matches per team.

SC Cambuur Under 21 (4-0 win)
The men of Under 21 were second home game of the Autumn Competition Division 1 on the program with Go Ahead Eagles as opponent. The Leeuwarders immediately showed who is the boss at Cambuurplein and after fifteen minutes it was Yoram van der Veen who scored the opening goal. He would have been a great match player, but the man of the match was Tom van der Werff. The skilled midfielder scored with a devastating long-range shot in the 22nd minute and repeated the trick shortly after the break. After an excellent counter, the ball came to the same Tom van der Werff via Bram Marsman, who shot the ball flawlessly into the far corner with his left foot. The final score was for Iwan Henstra who made it 4-0. SC Cambuur did not encounter any problems and achieved a justified and comprehensive victory against Go Ahead Eagles.

SC Cambuur Under 18 (2-1 defeat)
A difficult match for the Under 18s, where the men of coach Justin van der Dam visited their peers from PEC Zwolle. However, the start of the yellow and blue was excellent and early in the match Roan van der Weij scored well from a free kick. However, there was no way to enjoy the lead for long, because the Zwolle team would equalize again from the kick-off and it would even get worse. After Wiebe van der Heide had been given a good chance on behalf of SC Cambuur, PEC took the lead from one of the few dangerous moments. After the break, O18 was dangerous to very dangerous several times due to opportunities from Danyello Look, Wessel van der Goot and Roan van der Weij. Unfortunately, they did not hit a target and the score remained 2-1 against Zwolle.

SC Cambuur Under 14 (0-4 win)
Finally, SC Cambuur Under 14, which played an away match against Bennekom Under 14. From the start of the match it was one-way traffic and SC Cambuur was in charge on the field. The home team made the field very small and that made it difficult to create opportunities. That worked after a good moment of pressure, after which the ball would go into Bennekom’s own goal with some fortune. In the second half the spaces became larger and the Under 14s moved further away. Thanks to two goals from Boaz Kingma (including a nice free kick) and a nice headed goal from Roy de Boer, the young yellow and blue team eventually finished 0-4.
