After the pop star promoted Kamala Harris and the US election on Instagram, the voter registration site saw a huge increase.

Washington DC – Superstar Taylor Swift attracted over 400,000 people within 24 hours with her Instagram-Post on the voter registration page for the US election in November. The figures were provided by the operators of the vote.gov website to variety confirmed. The 34-year-old posted a custom link for her over 284 million fans on Instagram. For comparison: In the previous week, the page had an average of around 30,000 visitors per day.

Harris receives support from mega-star in US election campaign: Swift promotes the Democrat on Instagram

What is not known, however, is how many of these visitors subsequently registered as voters. However, the site operators estimate that on September 11 (Wednesday) there were over 27,000 new registrations via the website and over 80,000 people confirmed their registration status.

This is because users cannot register at vote.gov. Instead, residents are directed to their state’s election websites, where they must register directly with their state.

In addition to calling for people to vote in November, Swift also campaigned for presidential candidate Kamala Harris (Democrat). Immediately after the TV debate between the two US presidential candidates Harris and Donald Trump, megastar Swift announced on Instagram that she would vote for Democrat Harris.

The US singer thus broke her long silence, which had already caused irritation among some fans. Swift said she watched the debate, which lasted a good hour and a half, and expressed her conviction in her Instagram post that Harris is “a gifted leader with a steady hand” and that the people of the USA “accomplish so much more when we are led by calm and not chaos”.

By praising Harris’s vice presidential candidate Walz, the pop singer also showed which political positions contributed to her voting decision. Walz has long been committed to “LGBTQ+ rights” and “a woman’s right over her own body” – i.e. the right to abortion, she wrote.

The 34-year-old captioned her post “Taylor Swift, childless cat lady,” an ironic reference to a disrespectful comment by Trump’s vice presidential candidate JD Vance about supporters of the Democratic Party – and included a photo of herself in a black sweater with a fluffy cat in her arms.

Swift’s reach is exploited: AI-generated videos promote Trump

However, because of Swift’s enormous influence, she is repeatedly the object of political disinformation and conspiracy myths from the political right. She recently saw a fake generated using artificial intelligence in which she allegedly called for the election of Trump, Swift said in her Instagram post after the TV debate. This led her to the conclusion “that I need to be very transparent about my current plans for this election as a voter.”

Swift emphasized that her decision to vote for Harris was the result of careful “research” on the candidates and their plans. She called on her fans to also find out more about the presidential candidates. She also encouraged people to use early voting opportunities before the actual election date on November 5th and to exercise their right to vote in any case. As a contribution to this, she linked her message to the online registration as a US voter.

Trump rails against Swift: She will “pay a price” for supporting the Democrats

The superstar did not recommend voting for Harris. Swift can assume, however, that many of her loyal fans will be influenced by her decision to vote for Harris. Swift’s message ended with “With love and hope” – and within half an hour her plea for Harris received more than two million likes.

Trump told right-wing Fox News on Wednesday (September 11) that he was not a “fan” of Swift anyway. The singer is “a very liberal person” and “always seems to support a Democrat, and she will probably pay a price for that in the market.” (dpa/bg).
