The universe is increasingly visible to human beings thanks to the Webb telescope and its incredible scope, like the one he just achieved a few hours ago, as officially announced by NASA in an official statement and later on social networks, where what was seen by said device is replicated, one of the best on the planet to explore the universe.
The observed galaxy was NGC 5068 thanks to the MIRI (Middle Infrared Instrument) and NIRCam (Near Infrared Camera) tools, which were the ones that allowed us to see through the swirling clouds of gas and dust, and inside which there are the processes of planetary formations with their respective ecosystems, something that had not been seen more than 17 million light years from Earth in the constellation Virgo.
“These are stars in the view of Webb’s near-infrared camera (NIRCam). The galaxy’s massive population of stars is densest along its bright central bar. Its gas clouds, shown in red, are filled with young star clusters. A huge gathering of older stars constitutes the galactic nucleus”, says the tweet where the great image that today makes history is shown.
“Previous gems in this collection can be seen there. These observations are particularly valuable to astronomers for two reasons. The first is because star formation underpins many fields of astronomy, from the physics of the tenuous plasma found between stars to the evolution of entire galaxies. By observing star formation in nearby galaxies, astronomers hope to spur major scientific breakthroughs with some of the first data available from Webb.”, declares the statement quoted on Twitter.
In addition, these new images do not come alone. On the way that the telescope takes to reach the galaxy NGC 5068, it also captures another series of images that can be taken of other galaxy formations of which there is already a record and the update and the “match” can be done to understand a little more. the dynamics of the universe in a more accurate way, adding pieces to an infinite puzzle that scientists are determined to assemble.
For the moment, the most important thing is that we have a little more information regarding the stellar formation of stars and planets, something that is known to come from a chaotic process of energies and elements, but that with the new images it may be more broken down according to what already happened, since the light captured by Webb is very distant and it may even be that the stars he captured have already died.
Even so, the progress is magnificent and all the institutions and governments that make Webb possible celebrate the discovery and the new achievements of this telescope, which every day captures more interesting images not only of distant galaxies, but those of neighboring galaxies where Earth lives. , but of phenomena that are happening in real time on other planets and satellites of the Solar System.
