Weather Woes: The Unforeseen Adventures of a Vacation Gone Awry

Weather Woes: The Unforeseen Adventures of a Vacation Gone Awry

Weather Obsession Project

Is there anything that changes as much as the weather? It suddenly rains when there is no sign of rain, the clear sky becomes cloudy in an instant, and its fickleness is like boiling soup. It feels like an unpredictable feeling. It also feels like an unpredictable life. You can’t make plans at all. Everything is overturned or changed suddenly at the last minute for a reason. Even weather forecasts analyzed with the latest equipment are useless. Only unpredictable uncertainty awaits tomorrow.

I lay on the rooftop and look at the sky. Clouds are busily coming from far away. The twinkling stars are suddenly covered by clouds, and after a while, it starts to rain heavily. Ah, I was looking at the stars that were densely packed for the first time in a long time, but the rain clouds are ruining my view. What about when I go to the sea? The color of the sea is definitely determined by sunlight. When there is enough light, it shines emerald, but when there is no light, the saturation drops drastically and it becomes like the color of water flowing in a sewer. That is why I always pray to the weather god the night before every trip. “I hope the weather is good. I hope the day is clear.”

Of course, reality is not like that. The weather forecast said ‘clear’ for tomorrow until yesterday, but it changed to ‘cloudy’ in an instant, and when I close the curtains, a gloomy gray awaits me. I, who is good at changing from day to day, become gloomy when I close the curtains in the morning unless it says ‘clear’.

But then this thought suddenly occurred to me. Is there such a thing as good weather and bad weather? When we think of good weather, we usually think of a cool day with a blue sky, but since the standard of likes and dislikes is up to each individual, I wonder if good weather for someone could be a muggy, cloudy day. Also, the weather doesn’t change for some purpose, but just changes with the flow of time like life on Earth, but it seems like we’re looking at the weather with fixed standards and self-centered perspectives. Just as some people like cloudy and rainy days, whether it’s sunny or cloudy, if we look at it from a different perspective, we can have a variety of feelings. I was a boring newbie who still didn’t know the charm of a cloudy day.

So I decided to take the Chuseok holiday as a stepping stone and go on a trip. I named it Weather Tour. I don’t let the weather affect my mood, but I fully accept the weather of the day and record the day. When it’s sunny, I go with the sunshine, and when it rains, I go with the rain. When it’s sunny, I organize a playlist of songs related to sunshine, read books with the word sunshine in them, draw pictures of sunshine, take pictures, go to restaurants with the word sunshine in them, and chew on crops grown in the sunshine… (madness)

Anyway, this trip is such a challenge. A 10-day journey where you don’t get swayed by the weather, but accept it as it is and enjoy it very meticulously and thoroughly. Under an unpredictable sky, you face a different day every day and try to enjoy the weather of that day.
