Last rains then spring returns in a “normal” version: sunny but not hot. Antonio Sanò, founder of the IlMeteo.it website, confirms a marked improvement following the passage of the ‘double vortex’ at the beginning of May: «The second vortex is leaving the country towards the Balkans, but still activates unstable and humid western currents especially towards the Tyrrhenian sector central-southern and the north-east. In the next few hours, therefore, this second vortex, arriving from England and loaded with cooler and more unstable air, will position the low pressure minimum in Macedonia, north of Greece. Despite the geographical distance, the vortex will be able to attract westerly winds which will dump rain between Lower Tuscany and Tyrrhenian Calabria; Furthermore, phenomena are expected in the Triveneto and locally, crossing the border from the central Tyrrhenian regions towards the Adriatic, also in Marche, Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia. In practice we will have some showers of rain almost everywhere, but patchy and alternating with sunny phases. Only on the Major Islands, Sicily and Sardinia, will the sun shine completely and we will reach temperatures of 25-26°C; Elsewhere, highs will struggle to rise above 20 degrees, confirming a decidedly below-average start to May.”
«The weekend will take care of bringing back some warmth – says the weather expert. From Saturday the spring we love most will explode once more, the sunny, blue and clear one. The weather is expected to be good with prevailing sun and skies only at times cloudy except for local instability in the Alps. Maximum temperatures will even reach 30°C in Sardinia and 28°C in Sicily, but will struggle to rise above 22-23 in the peninsular sector °C. You will still be comfortable almost anywhere. After a shaky and unstable start to May, here is a beautiful, serene, peaceful and stable weekend.”
Sanò then focuses on long-term weather forecasts: «Less than a month before the start of the meteorological summer (June 1st), the ghostly signs of the summer heat wave anticipated in May are therefore missing, as has often happened in recent years. The scorching summer is far away and, at least until Mother’s Day (12 May), temperatures will remain pleasant and without excesses. Indeed, between Tuesday and Wednesday, rain will return to the Centre-North and then descend towards the South, accompanied by a new slight drop in temperature”.
