Weather reportThe snow has returned, several passes are closed

Snowfall was expected up to 1500 meters altitude. Saturday morning, some passes had to be closed, bad luck if you want to go to Ticino for example.

Autumn made its first foray into Switzerland overnight from Friday to Saturday. The snowfall limit fell below 2000 meters, with a local limit of 1500 meters, MeteoNews noted on Saturday morning. The quantities were generally low and the ground, still rather warm, may not give the opportunity for a long life to the white coat.

However, passes have had to be closed to traffic, which may have consequences in particular for French-speaking people who were planning to go to Ticino for the weekend of the federal fast. Below, the five passes currently closed, and this “until further notice”:

  • Le col du Nufenen (2478m)

  • The Grimsel pass (2165m)

  • Le col de la Furka (2436m)

  • Le Flüelapass (2383m)

  • Le col de Süsten (2224m)

Snowfall is still expected during the day, especially on the northern slopes of the Alps and on the Graubünden side. They will gradually shift eastwards towards Austria overnight from Saturday to Sunday. On the side of French-speaking Switzerland, the clouds will quickly give way to chilly but sunny weather on Saturday and Sunday.
