From Sunday, Switzerland will be impacted by a series of disturbances due to the cold front crossing a large part of Europe from west to east. Snow is thus expected in the morning, from 1300 to 1500 m altitude, announces MeteoNews. Then, in the night from Sunday to Monday, the showers accompanied by strong gusts of wind will lower the flakes towards 1000 m on Monday. Until Tuesday, an unstable regime will take over with snow from 700 to 900 m altitude.

We can thus hope, from Sunday to Tuesday, 30 to 50 cm of snow above 1800 to 2000m altitude, 15 to 30 cm around 1500m and 5 to 15 cm around 1000 m. By next weekend, the layer of fresh snow above 2000 m altitude might reach 50 to 80 cm depending on the region. For those located below this altitude, and which will experience rain, the accumulations will be more modest and the fresh snow is likely to melt for the most part.

Location of low altitude stations

If the snow situation should improve significantly above 1800 to 2000 m, the conditions will remain more mixed below this limit, warns MeteoNews. Low-altitude resorts will therefore probably not be able to open their tracks immediately. At present, no lasting cold air arrival is in sight, even if many uncertainties persist.

Furthermore, the avalanche danger will increase significantly over the next week. Caution is therefore called for.
