Weather: Spain records its strongest heat wave for early June in 20 years

The thermometer reached 40 degrees Celsius this Saturday in Seville and Cordoba in southern Spain, hit by an unprecedented heat wave for at least twenty years for this time of year.

The Spanish meteorological services (AEMET) predict that temperatures will rise further in the evening of Saturday and Sunday.

Around 42°C are particularly expected, for example in the Guadiana Valley, in Extremadura.

The EFI index, which quantifies the rarity of an extreme phenomenon, shows very high values in most of the Peninsula, so that we might be facing the #OlaDeCalor most intense for mid-June in at least the last 20 years. pic.twitter.com/ra18yyJJGX

This heat wave is explained by the presence of a vast cloud of hot air coming from North Africa and should last until June 15, according to AEMET.
