Weather: snowflakes expected in the plains this Sunday, where could it snow in the next few days?

Snow might fall in the Gard and in the Hérault, this Monday, December 12, first in the morning then in the evening. The risk of snow is low but exists.

Winter is here. Temperatures drop these last few days, once more and once more, until perhaps generating snow. This Sunday, December 11, the northern half of the country should see snowflakes falling. “Around the Channel, showers will occur, in the form of snow inland. In the followingnoon and evening, they will be frequent enough to whiten the soils of Normandy and Hauts de France. Towards Ile-de-France, the snowfall will be more sparse”, indicates Météo France.

For Monday, December 12, it is also in Occitania that it is happening. The departments of Gard and Hérault are also on snow and ice yellow vigilance for this day. The risk of snow is low, but exists, according to Météolanguedoc. It might thus snow from Monday morning “until the plain over a large part of Hérault and GardBut, this is the most optimistic forecast. However, the temperature will be low enough through the night of the previous day to allow snow to fall.

More likely in the evening than in the morning

The chances of flakes are greater for the evening, despite the caution that must be kept. Météolanguedoc explains: “It takes perfect coordination of several parameters for the snowy scenario at very low altitude is confirmed. Cloud cover, ground temperature, temperature at altitude, precipitation, wind, all these parameters are very important in determining the probability of snow on our plains. The period at risk is between Monday evening and the night of Monday to Tuesday.”

Even if the quantities are expected to be quite small, 1 to 5 centimeters of snow is expected in the Hérault and Gard sectors. Météolanguedoc analyzes: “The snowflakes are especially expected at the beginning of the night because the thaw should end up taking over with the rain which will take over during the night. In the end, if it is far from being the episode of the century , we can wait a small layer of snow from 100 or 200 meters in the hinterland of Hérault and Gardwhich remains an event for our region.”
