Weather forecast: “A 10 degree rise expected on Monday is the yo-yo effect”

The day will start under a very cloudy sky with some snowfall south of the Sambre and Meuse furrow, which might form a layer of a few centimeters in Gaume and in the south of the Ardennes, according to the latest forecasts from the Royal Meteorological Institute. During the day, these winter precipitations will evacuate towards the east and sunny spells will return to the north, then the center of the country at the end of the day. The maxima will vary between 3 degrees on the high plateaus of the Ardennes, 0 degrees in the center of the country and +2 degrees by the sea.

This Wednesday evening and next night, the weather will be generally dry with large clearings in the north of the country and cloudier skies in the Ardennes. The night will once more be very cold with lows of -4 to -7 degrees in most regions and -7 to -13 degrees south of the Sambre and Meuse furrow.

Thursday, the weather will be mostly dry with partly to sometimes very cloudy skies. A few showers will develop over the North Sea and may eventually drift to our coast. During the followingnoon, the sky will clear from the north. The maximum will vary between 2 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes, +2 or +3 degrees in the center of the country and +6 degrees by the sea.

Friday morning, a few fields of low clouds or banks of freezing fog may hang locally over the Ardennes, and more locally in the other regions. During the day, the sky will be sunny in most regions but the grayness may persist in places in the Ardennes, and some convective cloud developments may form along the coast. With a weak wind from north to northeast, the maxima will range between -5 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes, 0 degrees in the center of the country and +2 or +3 degrees by the sea.

Saturday, the sky will be sunny with gradually veils of high clouds from the southwest. The maxima will vary between -6 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes and +1 or +2 degrees by the sea. The wind will be light to sometimes moderate from south to south-east.

Sunday, the sky will cover quickly, then rains will invade our country during the day from the west. The first precipitation may be freezing before the arrival of sometimes fairly heavy rain. At the end of the day, temperatures will reach 5 degrees by the sea, 4 degrees in the center of the country and 1 degree in the Hautes Fagnes. Temperatures will continue to rise the following night, ensuring a widespread thaw. The wind will strengthen to become moderate to sometimes quite strong from south to southeast. These rains will continue the following night.

In RTLinfo 1 p.m., Emilie Dupuis returned to the evolution of maximum and minimum temperatures in recent days: “In October and November, we had a lot of mildness. We were more than 5 degrees above normal for the season. Autumn really started mildly, but ended in the cold. Since the November 29, we fell below these seasonal normals and since then the temperatures have never reached them once more. We have very cold, even extremely cold nights. Tonight, we will be down to -13 degrees. And so obviously, this is widening the gap. The advantage is that from Monday, well, the curve will be reversed in 24 hours, we will gain more than 10 degrees. Next Monday and Tuesday, we will switch above seasonal normals. And then, from next Wednesday, we will find seasonal normals. It’s really the yo-yo effect”says our weather presenter.
