We won the bet to limit tax evasion

The Minister of Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, spoke on social media today (18.10.2024) about the achievement of the goal of connecting cash registers with POS.

With his post on his personal account on TikTok, Kostis Hatzidakis initially asked the following question: “What is it that many thought would never happen, finally happened and helps us limit tax evasion?” answering the interface of POS with cash registers.

“We reached 407,000 connections, thus exceeding by 7,000 the goal we had set together with the European Commission,” he points out, flashing back to his post on February 23, 2024, when he wanted to bet on whether or not the interconnection would happen.

“Shall we have a bet? The interconnection of POS with cash registers will be completed rain or snow!”, he had said.

“So, we won the bet at the Ministry of Finance. And all of us together thus won the bet to limit tax evasion. The figures already show that in the first half of 2024 we have 10.3% more VAT revenue. And the development of the economy contributed to this on the one hand and this initiative on the other: The interconnection of POS and cash registers”, emphasizes the minister.

@kostis_hatzidakis What is something that many thought would never happen, has finally happened and is helping us curb tax evasion? The connection of POS with cash registers. As we reached 407,000 connections, thus exceeding by 7,000 the goal we had set together with the European Commission. So, we won the bet at the Ministry of Finance. And all of us together thus won the bet to limit tax evasion. #tiktokgreece #fypgreece #ellada #greece #politiki #neadimokratia #fy ♬ original sound – Kostis Hatzidakis

“This is not just about tax fairness. It is also a way to reduce taxes even more. Does anyone disagree? Anyone want more tax evasion? And more taxes? Speaking of which, we’ve heard it all. We might hear that too!”, concludes Mr. Hatzidakis.
