This is yet another brutal step backwards and the cancellation of the unquestionable rights of women and girls. As an article in Il Giornale recalls, the cruelty of the Taliban government’s choices has intensified since the summer of 2021. The supreme leader then added that women’s rights supported by the international community are contrary to the harsh interpretation of Islamic Sharia by the Taliban. “Do women want the rights Westerners talk about? They are against Sharia and the views of the clergy, the clergy who overthrew Western democracy,” he declared.
