“We will now leave the waste!”

The frustration is total. After another party on Wednesday evening, the Citadel Park in Ghent turned into a veritable dump the next morning. For the city, there is no longer any question of cleaning. “Why should we keep doing it? “, explains to Laatste Nieuws the alderman Astrid De Bruycker (Vooruit) responsible for green spaces.

“The workers sometimes spend half a day cleaning up the waste in the parks when in reality they should be dealing with the management of the greenery. This is why we will now leave waste in the Parc de la Citadelle. Not in the whole park of course: the area around the playground will be cleaned, glasses and hazardous waste will also be removed. But we just leave the rubbish in a clearly defined area. We want to confront the polluters with their behavior. Hopefully this will open people’s eyes. It is high time,” she adds.

It remains to be seen what the results of this experiment will be. “It’s not nice to leave trash. Hopefully it will soon become clear how anti-social it is to leave trash lying around in our parks. »
