At this moment (Friday) the first conference of the union of the left-wing parties (Labor and the Democratic Party), the “Democrats”, is being held. At the beginning of his speech, the chairman of the movement Yair Golan referred to the kidnappings and the kidnapped and said: “I would like to warn the Prime Minister from here. This is an important day in our becoming a governing, ethical and practical alternative to the worst default government in the country’s history. We must rise above personal considerations. We must not engage in politics small. We must understand the magnitude of the hour, and the urgent need for human leadership, leadership that will bring healing and revival to the citizens of Israel.
Golan further added: “Reality has given us the opportunity and the duty to lead the correction required for the establishment of the National House. Israel is at the greatest security low in its history, and Israel’s deterrence capacity has suffered a fatal blow. We will have to restore the IDF, but we will need much more than that. A vision for national security must be formulated, in which political wisdom will be combined alongside military capability; regional alliances with superpower backing; Internal national resilience with offensive offensive capability; and well stocked with a trained army. Above all, we will have to go back and find out what is the righteousness of the way, what is the purity of weapons, what builds an army and a society, and how to block with all our might the formation of a vengeful, extreme and violent society. Israel’s soul is under serious threat, and we must consolidate the forces within us, in order to save ourselves from what has destroyed so many nations throughout history: deep corruption, excessive sectoralism, and extreme nationalism.”
Referring to the merger agreement between the Labor parties and Meretz, Golan said: “The approval of the political merger with Meretz, which is being submitted this morning for your approval, is a necessary and historic move. It changes the political reality, it corrects past mistakes, I am very proud of this move. The agreement strengthens the camp, reduces the The chances of Netanyahu and his government to remain in power are a significant boost for us on the way to becoming a governing alternative. As with any agreement, its public, value and political importance is greater than any price. Meretz has become our political partner By her side, already today, many representatives from the protest and from among civil society are marching with us.”
In his words, Golan marked the political line and his vision: “We must decide between annexation and separation. Israel needs and wants to separate from the Palestinians by giving civil responsibility to the Palestinian Authority, marking future borders, and maintaining full ground security freedom of action in any area where a threat arises.
