We will continue to fight together for the liberation and reunification of Cyprus and its people

The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, as part of her visit to Nicosia, attended, together with the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulidis, the military parade for the 64th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Republic of Cyprus.

Immediately afterwards, with her statement, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou emphasized that “October 1st is a day of remembrance and honor for the struggles and sacrifices that led to independent Cyprus” and added that “64 years after its establishment, and despite the illegal Turkish invasion of 1974 and the ongoing occupation, the Republic of Cyprus is a modern European state and a pillar of stability in the wider region”.

Concluding, the President of the Republic reminded that “bound by brotherly ties, Greece and Cyprus, we will continue to fight together for the liberation and reunification of Cyprus and its people. Happy birthday!”.

Earlier, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou attended the trisage held at the Imprisoned Monuments and laid a wreath. Stefani also placed a wreath on the statue of Archbishop Makarios III, as well as on the Democracy and Resistance Monument.
