“We weren’t even allowed to touch his hand,” his parents lament

A sad accident involving a Belgian took place on Saturday February 25 in Maastricht, the Netherlands. A young man from Lanaken was hit by a train while he was riding his scooter. Our colleagues from HBVL reported that Tarik, the 17-year-old victim, lost his life. His passenger was injured.

This Thursday, we learn, still via HBVL, that Tarik’s parents are back from Fez, the Moroccan city where they buried their child. “We mightn’t say goodbye to him. We weren’t even allowed to touch his hand,” laments Driss, his dad.

The family of the deceased lived in Maastricht: “It is partly there that Tarik grew up. He went there regularly to play football on the street or at his club in Maastricht-West. He was a cheerful, helpful and happy boy. He dreamed of becoming an engineer. “So young, he still had a bright future ahead of him. Now he is no longer there for his two brothers and his sister, ”regrets her aunt Rachida.
