“We went out, we screamed and we realized that he had been shot in the head”

New Year’s Eve is overshadowed in Bogotá by a blood act that claimed the life of a minor, who became the new victim of hitmen in the country.

This is the case registered to the north of the city, more precisely, on Avenida Boyacá with Calle 116. On that point in the capital, motorized subjects intercepted a father and his sonwho attacked without any kind of contemplation, dying due to the seriousness of the injuries by firearm, the seven-year-old.

In the midst of his grief over the violent departure of his loved one, Jhon Freddy Rojas Peñas, he spoke in statements with Snail Newsregarding this unfortunate incident that mourns everyone in his home and that undoubtedly tarnishes the New Year’s Eve celebration.

According to what was stated by this father of the family, who still has not found an explanation for what happened, when both were inside a Jeep Wrangler Sport truck; which was intercepted by motorists, who, without hesitating, began to shoot indiscriminately.

He recounts that he was driving the vehicle, and that inside were his sentimental partner and the little one. “(…) my baby (the seven-year-old boy) came behind, he was always there to chat with us, we were super happy“, said.

He stated that they suddenly felt some blows, sounds that he initially confused with some mechanical damage. However, since it was not one or two, but seven shots in total, he understood that it was something different, and that out of an instinct for protection, “all I did was try to duck,” he said.

When the shooting finally stopped, she said she realized her son had been wounded. “We got out, we got out of the car, we yelled and when we realized that he had been shot in the headIt went through both hemispheres of the brain,” said Rojas Peñas, who stated that he quickly moved with it to the Shaio Clinic. There, the little boy received all the necessary medical attention, waiting for a favorable evolution in his state of health. However, in the early hours of this Saturday, December 31, he passed away.

In the midst of this painful loss, this father asked for justice for his son; At the same time, he stated that he was unaware of the motives surrounding the attack, because prior to the event, he and his relatives who accompanied him in the car, had made the withdrawal of money, at the height of Calle 80. “My duck did not deserve this”, he expressed.

Regarding this act of blood, the authorities continue to search for information to clarify what happened; This was pointed out by Colonel Wilford Méndez, Operational Commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, when expressing that Progress is being made in the collection of material from video cameras, testimonies, and other elements that “allow us to quickly find the individuals who generated the aggression.”

According to data provided by the Colombian National Police, as of December 20, 7,772 cases related to hit men have been registered in the country; representing a 2.77% lower rate compared to the 2021 scenario. In the figures of cities, in Bogotá there have been 353 cases of assassination, however, the most complex situation is registered in the city of Cali, where the number of violent deaths is located at 1,280 cases so far in 2022.
