«We want to give work to Sicilians in Sicily»

“Give your best, you have a government that is on your side.” With this message addressed to candidates, the president of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani opened the two days organized in Palermo by the Webuild group to select personnel with a view to hiring them as operators on the company’s construction sites. The event, with over 600 registered people, will continue, even in the afternoon hours, until tomorrow in the auditorium of the Department of Territory and Environment.

Today the selection concerned those who, with or without experience, are currently unemployed, unemployed or who want to embark on a new path in the construction sector. Tomorrow, October 3rd, it will be the turn of recent graduates from technical and professional institutes. The selections will continue on 9 and 10 October in Catania. During the opening day, representatives of Webuild and the general managers of the regional Labor department, Ettore Foti, and the professional training department, Maurizio Pirillo, spoke. President Schifani was welcomed by the regional councilor for the Territory Giusi Savarino. Webuild is currently carrying out works on the island for the railway doubling of the Palermo-Catania-Messina high-capacity line and for a section of the Ragusa-Catania motorway. «These selection days – added President Schifani – represent a great opportunity that my government supports with enthusiasm and conviction. Our goal, in fact, is to give work to Sicilians in Sicily. For this I want to thank the CEO of Webuild Pietro Salini, a figure who honors Italian entrepreneurship on a global level, for having accepted our collaboration proposal with great intelligence. It is with this policy of action that we want to support the weakest groups, breaking down all those barriers that create poverty and discrimination and prevent our young people from achieving their full potential.” Precisely in reference to young people, President Schifani also spoke on professional training: «The regional offer does not coincide with market demand. Overcoming this gap is an objective of my government. This is why I expect myself and the council to be able to approve the legislative scheme for the reform of the sector as soon as possible, to give the training courses paid for by the Region an address in line with the profiles that companies require”.
