“We want a more inclusive school” –

The decree law “Sport and School” has been approved by the Chamber of Deputies. In the part of competence of the Ministry of Education and Merit, the decree contains several interventions aimed at ensuring the regular start of the 2024/2025 school year, to strengthen support for students with disabilities and to achieve the inclusion of students of foreign origin but also to strengthen administrative action and guarantee the placement of new teachers in roles.

“These are important measures that we strongly wanted and that mark a further step forward in the reform action of the government and the parliamentary majority,” declared the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara. “Among the many, I would like to focus on two measures: support and foreigners. To respond to the shortage of support teachers, 85 thousand teachers are not specialized today, we are strengthening the specialization paths through a new training offer. Families will also be able to decide to request confirmation of the support teacher who works alongside their child, so as to guarantee, even in the case of substitutes, that educational continuity that is a fundamental safeguard for everyone’s education but especially for the most fragile students. Students of foreign origin, moreover, will have to acquire an adequate knowledge of Italian, with mandatory courses and dedicated teachers: the language is a fundamental requirement for inclusion that is real and not just preached. Our goal,” concludes Valditara, “is an increasingly inclusive school with increasingly higher quality standards, in which the talents of every young person are valued and promoted, regardless of their starting conditions.”
