“We use justice to humiliate citizens”

Pope Djibril Fall took the floor. The bill to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure is currently under discussion at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly. If this law is adopted, the Court for the Suppression of Illicit Enrichment (CREI) will be replaced by a Judicial Financial Pool (PJF).

Deputy Pape Djibril Fall believes that the problem does not lie in the mechanisms in place, but rather in the political will. According to him, the executive exerts a strong influence on many cases, and justice is sometimes used to humiliate citizens. The abolition of the CREI is therefore perceived as a sign of the failure of the current policy. “The Executive puts its elbow on a lot of things. And we use justice to humiliate citizens. The abolition of the CREI is an admission of failure,” he said.

For the deputy, the various jurisdictions and supervisory bodies should instead focus on the prevention of infringements, in order to prevent such problems from occurring in the future.
