“We think of our car on warning when we should be focused on the patients”

If they keep their good humor, the liberal nurses of this cabinet, located in the hypercenter of Pau, are exceeded. Since the beginning of the year, their vehicles have been constantly fined for inconvenient parking. In three months, the thirteen nurses in the firm have accumulated a fine of 1,145 euros.

“We are stressed, we are not serene”

Yet in Pau, healthcare professionals benefit from free parking. But the lack of places in the city center pushes them to the fault. Hazard lights on in a delivery place or on the bus lane, “we have no choice, there are no other options and that’s where we are fined”, laments Gaelle. His colleague Hélène, 43, notices another problem. “Some cars don’t move all week and nothing is done. »

“Two or three PV per month”

Each nurse sees, on average, more than twenty patients a day. At 44, Sandra, who has been practicing since 2015 in Pau, is surprised by this problem. “Between 2015 and 2021, I had to have one report per year, she says. Since the beginning of 2022, I have been at two or three PVs per month. However, I always park in the same places. The professionals claim to take precautions. The nursing caduceus is visible, accompanied by a small poster with their telephone number. “But no one calls us,” says Sandra. “I also find that there is less tolerance on the part of the agents”, loose Gaëlle.

“Officers can show leniency”

An argument refuted by the City, which ensures that no new instructions for firmness have been given, and which does not raise any increase in disputes. “Officers can show leniency if the healthcare professional is able to move their vehicle, but they cannot engage in a systematic search for it. The town hall recalls that health professionals benefit from one hour of parking for interventions in the streets of the pedestrian center, once morest 20 minutes for other users. “However, this does not exempt them from respecting the Highway Code”, concludes the City.

“We shorten conversations”

In an attempt to stem the problem, the firm purchased a parking space. Some nurses try other approaches by investing in a scooter or favoring walking, but this has its share of problems. “Sometimes you have to wear equipment to do dressings, injections or blood tests,” explains one of them. Not easy without a car. What regarding underground car parks? “Some appointments only last 15 minutes, you can’t come in and then go out each time. »

They fear for the quality of their work. “We are stressed, we are not serene”, specifies Gaëlle. The situation penalizes them all the more as each nurse is independent, and must pay the fines out of her own pocket. “We have to hurry, we shorten conversations, we think of our car on warning when we should be focused on the patients”, regrets Sandra.
