“We saw an incredible image of the ‘King’ on his throne”: Thomas de Bergeyck comments on Prince Charles’ speech in parliament

Our European high society expert and presenter of our show Place Royale was the guest on the RTLINFO 13H set, this Tuesday following the exceptional appearance of Prince Charles to deliver the speech from the throne in Parliament, replacing his mother, suffering from mobility problems.

According to Thomas de Bergeyck, there is no doubt that the Queen followed her son on television for his big premiere. And to comment on this historic moment: “It was very special. We saw an incredible image of a king on his throne, even if the throne is not quite Elizabeth’s throne. It was another piece of furniture, a chair lower than the one used by Elizabeth. It is also a way of proving that Elizabeth is still the Queen by the way. The prince does not wear the crown. It is placed on the cushion next to him. His wife, Camilla was there , as well as the second heir, Prince William.”

“Prince Charles spoke by referring to ‘Her Majesty’s government’ and not ‘my’ government. (…) He also spoke in a neutral tone without expressing an opinion and therefore this neutral tone c This is a way of taking this distance anyway from a text that was written by the government.

According to Thomas de Bergeyck, the Queen does not want to be seen in a wheelchair and would save herself for her long-awaited jubilee by the British which will be celebrated with great fanfare on the first weekend of June in the United Kingdom.
