“We said things to each other at half-time”: the reactions after the victory of the Mauves in Mechelen

Hairemans: “We played a good first half. Then following 20 seconds, everything collapsed. So yes, I’m disappointed with our performance today. We let them come back into the game and we lost the battle at psychological level. We had several chances to make it 2-0 but we didn’t do it and we concede goals, like the second, where that can never happen. We concede too easily in general and that is not dated not today.”

Stroeykens: “The coach asked me to dare to play and to go forward. I had to be present in the sixteen meters and I will not forget this first goal for me in my professional career. What happened today is a dream for me but my main objective is to help the team and I was able to do that today so I’m happy.”

Mazzu: “The will of the players made the difference today. We lost too many duels in the first half and we got trodden on during the first half hour… It’s a victory to highlight players who have shown that they still want to win and move forward in difficult times. In a locker room, the most important thing is to say things to each other and we says things at half-time. The locker room is a competitive locker room like the staff and Refaelov made it known to the teammates at half-time… Stroeykens was very good at the start of the season before going through a period a little more delicate. I’m very happy for him because he’s a guy with an excellent mentality. It’s early to talk regarding the device level but it brought something today.”

Buijs: “All the matches are complicated in Belgium and next week’s game at La Gantoise is no exception to the rule. It was the details that made the difference today. Hairemans’ post might have changed the game but it’s a double feeling that predominates today. With this side where we might have won this match and on the other our defensive faults which have been punishing us too quickly for several weeks. I have reviewed our goals conceded and our errors are too blatant. My players need to learn to grow and evolve so they can win games once more.”
