The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) issued a forceful rejection of the statements of Lilia Lemoine, national representative elected by La Libertad Avanza, who expressed the intention to privatize public media in the event that the space led by Javier Milei gains the Presidency. The CGT Board of Directors expressed its repudiation of these statements, underlining the importance of preserving the public and rejecting threats to workers.

In an official statement, the CGT declared: «We categorically reject Lemoine’s comment regarding Public Television and its privatization, since he ignores and despises the role of public media in our democracy«.

Furthermore, the labor union expressed its solidarity with the affected worker, referring to Lemoine’s comments regarding her employment and job continuity.

The controversy arose during journalistic coverage by Public TV at the Constitución railway station. When approached by a chronicler, Lemoine suggested that the worker should “be a good worker” because in a possible La Libertad Avanza government, they plan to “privatize” the state media.

The CGT stressed that “the privatization of public affairs is not the appropriate path and that threats to workers are unacceptable.” Besides, emphasized that the disappearance of the State is not the solution either. These statements are given in the context of the run-up to the runoff that will determine the future of the country starting December 10.

The CGT statement concluded: «“We must not let this type of expressions riddled with irresponsibility and ignorance pass by on the part of one of the two spaces that wish to lead Argentina.”. At a crucial moment for the country, these statements generated controversy regarding the role of the public just hours before the second presidential round.
