Beyond its festive character, the date of March 8 should be an opportunity for women to expose the difficulties they face. Questioned in this month of women, the Director General of the Office for the Protection of Gender and Morals (OPROGEM), presented a gloomy picture, as for the cases of rape and harassment. Marie Gomez took the opportunity to come back to the statistics, as if to say that the fight is sizeable in this fight once morest the protection of the rights of girls and women.
”The month of women should not be limited to the day of March 08, where we women come to parade and dance. Before, during and following, we must in principle carry out several actions within the framework of the protection of the rights of children, minor girls and women. This is why before today, we have associated ourselves with activities such as those carried out by women trade unionists in relation to the filing of pleadings at government level, relating to Law 190 in relation to women’s rights, on the cases of rape, harassment and others and which are done especially in the professional environment, ”said Marie Gomez.
Continuing, Mrs. Gomez confided that during this month, a whole bunch of activities will be carried out by her structure. Raising awareness of Conakry inside the country, within the framework of the protection of vulnerable groups, in particular the prosecution of alleged rapists who sow terror in the city and who abuse little girls who have not reached their majority, will be the appointment.
“We will also tour the communities, in order to be in direct contact with the neighborhood leaders. This is why my direction does not stop only at this celebration. She is there for the prosecution of the alleged rapists, who sow terror in the city by abusing little girls who have not reached their majority. But there is also pimping once morest which we are fighting, and that is a violation of criminal law which is condemned and punished by our legal arsenal. And still in our field of intervention, we are going to raise awareness during this month of women, ”she said.
As of 2022, OPROGEM was able to record 281 cases of rape throughout the national territory. This figure, specifies the director, is the accumulation of all the data collected in the 33 prefectures of the country. Faced with the progression of this scourge, Marie Gomez requested the involvement of the population in order to banish this phenomenon.
“Often, these GBV-related offenses that are committed in neighborhoods have socio-cultural burdens that weigh on people, in order to be able to suffocate them. For this to be truly banned, it would be necessary for the fathers and mothers of families to have the courage to come to the security services to make denunciations, so that the victim is restored to his rights in criminal matters. This is why we are really asking for this collaboration of the populations with the security services”, wished Marie Gomez.
