While many unwind during the festive season, Dublin sprinter Rhasidat ‌Adeleke faces a different ⁤reality. The 2024/25 season is in⁣ full swing,‌ meaning even Christmas Day offers little respite for ⁤the Tallaght native. ”It’s a little different because we onyl ⁢have Christmas day off,” Adeleke shared at KPMG’s⁢ launch ⁣of research celebrating a standout year for women’s sport in Ireland. “so I wouldn’t⁤ realy go crazy on Christmas with the⁤ food and the enjoyment, because you have training the next day. But I think these are just the sacrifices that ⁤we⁤ take to be able‌ to get to where we want to be.”

From Paris Heartbreak to ⁤a Stronger 2025: Rhasidat Adeleke Focuses on ⁤the Grind

Rhasidat Adeleke, one of the world’s top sprinters, is using the⁢ lingering disappointment of the Paris Olympics to fuel her⁤ training for ⁢2025. While 2023 brought triumphs like a European mixed relay gold⁢ and silvers in the 400m and women’s 4x400m relay, adeleke’s fourth-place⁢ finish in the Olympic ⁢400m ⁣final,‍ followed by a similar result for ⁣the Irish‌ women’s 4x400m team, still stings. “It’s still a bit too raw, a bit too ⁢sore, ‌even four⁢ months ‌on,” she ‌admitted. Acknowledging the pain, Adeleke chose to embrace it and refocus on advancement.

Building Strength: Addressing Weaknesses Head-On

After a well-deserved break ‍that included time with family in Ireland, ⁣rubbing shoulders with Rihanna in London,‍ and a few ⁤days in Mexico, Adeleke returned to ‍her training base in Austin under coach edrick Floreal. ‍”Training has been really hard,” she confessed.”We’re working ⁣on my weaknesses,so anything that you’re not that good at is always going to be very hard, very ⁣difficult to get used to.” She identified strength as a key area for improvement. “This year, strength was⁤ definitely one of my weaknesses – I think because of the way we set out to maybe change things a little bit when it comes ⁣to my training.” Her increased focus on short sprints training didn’t translate⁢ to sufficient stamina for the 400m. adeleke explained that ⁤addressing her ⁣strength issues extends beyond mere stamina. “It was things‌ like posture and ⁣tightening in various areas, ⁢and ⁤strengthening work in my physique and⁤ not necessarily the training ⁣also.” She’s tackling ⁤these challenges through a multi-faceted approach. “So it’s a bunch of different things that I’m fixing with my training, but also⁢ in the weight room and ‍with⁤ mobility and prehab -just the little ‍one percentages that you ⁤don’t think⁣ matter but they do matter a lot.” Adeleke’s‌ self-awareness ⁣and openness to feedback‍ are key to her improvement. “I’m very self-aware… I know what I’m not good at, and ‍I’m really ⁤good ⁣at taking constructive criticism as well, so if someone is ⁤like, ‘oh, you need to work⁢ on this’ then I’m like ‘okay, what do ⁢I need to do?’” With a renewed focus on strength and her weaknesses addressed, Adeleke is determined to make 2025 a year‌ of triumphs on the track. ## Focused on Improvement, Adeleke Skips Indoor ⁣Season and Grand Slam Track ⁤ Rising star is laser-focused on improvement and maximizing her potential. ⁣”I want to do everything ⁢I can to get better⁣ at this sport and reach our full⁢ potential,” she⁣ stated.⁢ “So if anyone is able to⁤ help‍ me with that, I’m all ⁣ears and ‌I’m willing to do the work to get where I want to be.” She ⁤added, “Because ther’s⁣ nothing worse than feeling like, ‘Oh, I could have done more and I didn’t.’ So when it comes to‌ working on my weaknesses, I’m all for it.” With that dedication in mind, Adeleke and ⁢her coach, frequently enough referred to‍ as “coach Flo,” have opted ‍to skip the European and world Indoor Championships. Instead, they’ve crafted a plan that includes a few select indoor races in the‌ United States.”If I ⁢do any at ⁣all,⁣ it’ll be one or two in America and that’ll be it,” she explained, “Short⁢ and sweet.” This ⁢strategic approach also means Adeleke will not be participating ‌in⁣ Michael Johnson’s new venture, grand Slam Track. The four-time Olympic champion has launched a professional track and⁢ field league that promises head-to-head competition among the world’s elite athletes in four annual events. While⁢ the league has garnered attention with high-profile announcements and considerable ⁢prize money, Adeleke won’t be a part⁢ of it’s inaugural campaign. “Yeah, ‌Michael had talked to my coach and my agent, but Flo just didn’t ⁤see a fit for us so he just decided to ⁤wait and see how things work out,” she said. ⁢”It’s a different season⁤ already ‌so we didn’t want to add too much.⁤ Flo had his reasons, he didn’t‍ really go into it, but we just⁣ didn’t sign to‍ it.”
