The League asked in the Chamber for an intervention from Copasir to shed light on the “Agenda” case, the association founded in 2022 by the American environmentalist and Barack Obama’s former electoral guru, Jessica Shearer, and three other members of the Democratic Party, and financed – as reported in recent days by an Adnkronos investigation – with over 1 million euros between 2022 and 2023 by Democracy & Pluralism, a Swedish foundation chaired by the entrepreneur Daniel Sachs, “vice chair” of the Open Society of tycoon George Soros.
«I believe that Parliament must be informed and above all it must be interested in a fact reported in recent days in the news of some newspapers for a journalistic investigation which reported on funding» received by «an Italian association» from a Swedish foundation «connected to the tycoon Soros. We learned from the newspapers that the funding would ultimately be disbursed in favor of candidate exponents on the lists of the left and of the Democratic Party in particular”, said Lega deputy Stefano Candiani, speaking in the Chamber. According to the representative of the Carroccio «the fact that there is interference by a foreigner or a foreign foundation that puts money into Italian politics to influence the democratic life of the country, I believe is an issue on which Parliament must question itself, because the mechanism with where this funding comes from is opaque and needs to be clarified.” Candiani called both Copasir and the executive into question: «The Committee for the Security of the Republic must intervene and the government must take an interest in the issue. Because it is not acceptable for certain information to pass through the newspapers and remain like water flowing on marble”, concluded the Northern League parliamentarian.
