Jeff Petry is a favorite target for Canadiens fans this season due to his repeated underperformance.
Several analysts have also harshly criticized his work, including a certain Michel Bergeron. “Bergy” even called for the immediate departure of Petry on Sunday during the special broadcast on TVA Sports on the eve of the transaction deadline.
“We have to settle the Petry file right now,” said the former coach from the outset. My idea is made since the incident with Samuel Montembeault. He has to leave Montreal, period.
In addition to multiplying the errors in his territory, the 34-year-old defender does not represent a good influence for the young players of the organization, according to “Bergy”.
“He recovered for a few games following the arrival of Martin St-Louis, but he made another monumental blunder on Saturday. In his head, he’s gone, that’s what he wants. Let’s make it easy for him!
“We send him anywhere, it will be a benefit for the whole team. The young people who revolve around him wonder if this is how a veteran should behave.
“There is no more room for Gallagher and Byron”
Bergeron also hopes general manager Kent Hughes is out of forwards Brendan Gallagher and Paul Byron.
“Between Joel Armia and Gallagher, two right wingers who have played with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield lately, there is no comparison: Armia is much more useful than Gallagher. I know I won’t make everyone happy, but Gallagher is enough.
“He had some good years with the Canadiens, we rewarded him for that, but if we want to take the next step and have a talented and fast team, Gallagher can’t be part of it. If he stays, he will have to play on a fourth line.
As for Byron, Bergeron judges that the CH no longer needs him since the emergence of Rem Pitlick.
“Another player that I say is over is Byron. You have to make choices and Pitlick took his place. We no longer need Byron since the arrival of Pitlick, who is the revelation of the year in Montreal. If the other 31 teams didn’t want Byron on waivers, why would we keep him?”
On the other hand, he wants Brett Kulak to remain a member of the CH.
“Kulak, you keep it. We see that he behaves well with young people. You would have a third-round pick once morest him, but who cares regarding third picks, the Canadian has 42!”
