“We must now nationalize subcontracting” (DNI recommendation) –

The commissioners of the Economy Commission of the Inclusive National Dialogue (DNI) whose work ended this Saturday, April 27, 2024 with a general plenary chaired by Monseigneur Jean Patrick Iba-Ba, president of the said dialogue office, recommended the nationalization of the subcontracting to allow the Gabonese not only to reclaim their economy owned by expatriates, but also to build the country on their own.

“We must now nationalize subcontracting”clearly underlines a recommendation from the DNI read by Professor Gabriel Zomo Yebe, president of the Economy Commission.

In this spirit, the participants recommend that Gabonese entrepreneurs and SMEs/MIs be favored in the award of contracts. “Pay these SMEs having won public contracts half of their invoices from the start of the work to allow them to have working capital”they argued.

For Fr Gabriel Zomo Yebe, “restoring confidence in the Gabonese people also means restoring all our small businesses, which for a long time, due to lack of a clear competition policy, have often lost markets; and today our economy is largely controlled by foreigners”.

In order to absorb the prevailing unemployment of thousands of young people, these national meetings recommended the urgent creation of the “entrepreneurship bank”, to circumvent the excessively high interest rates in traditional banks. It was also recommended to strengthen the managerial capacities of PM/PMI leaders to avoid cascading bankruptcies.

The inclusive national dialogue also recommends a “diversified and job-creating production economy”, far from the rent-seeking economy currently in force in Gabon. The participants also demanded that the State recover the “buildings and resources of the State misappropriated by foreigners and Gabonese people”.
