We know the route of the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes 2024

After four editions of the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes et du Var (2020-2023), now it’s time for the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes in 2024. The event organized by the Nice-Matin group will split into two next February.

After the Classic Var, which will take place on Friday February 16, the weekend will continue with the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes, concentrated on two stages. “We made this choice to meet several expectations,” explains Frédéric Maistre, the events director of the Nice-Matin group and boss of the race. “First those of the two departments who wanted to have their own identity in each race, but also to respond to the evolution of cycling, because the teams are looking for points. It will be more advantageous for them to do two races in three days”.

Arrival in front of the Azur Arena

On a sporting level, there will be something for all types of runners. On Saturday February 17, the peloton will leave Levens to reach Antibes, finishing in front of the Azur Arena. “It’s the same finish as last year (victory for Mattias Skjelmose) which was nice”continues Frédéric Maistre, who designed the routes. “It’s not flat, not mountainous, but it’s for strong people.” The stage, 165.5 km long, will offer a final circuit of around twenty kilometers to be completed four times, with multiple pitfalls: “There won’t be a bit of flat ground and it turns a lot”.

On Sunday February 18, we will find the same stage as the last of the 2023 edition, won by Aurélien Paret-Peintre (AG2R-Citroën). Only 131.8 km between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Vence, but four difficulties listed (Eze and Châteauneuf passes and Carros and Sine climbs) “Everyone liked it. We said to ourselves that we had to do it again,” explains Frédéric Maistre.

Last year, it was in the final kilometers of this climb of the Sine that Paret-Peintre built his victory, but Kevin Vauquelin (Arkéa-Samsic) was able to save his leader’s jersey for seven seconds. The suspense should still be there next February…
