3D CAD files of the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro have leaked online. These should serve as a pattern for the molding of the shell of the new Apple smartphones and therefore provide us with precise information regarding their design.
You don’t even have to wait until September to find out what the future iPhone 15 and 15 Pro will look like. A week following successfully getting our hands on the iPhone 15 Pro CAD files, 9to5Mac also managed to find the files dedicated to the production of the “classic” iPhone 15. With almost seven months in advance, and unless the situation changes, the specialized media is therefore able to reveal with some precision the design of the next range of Apple smartphones.
As a reminder, CAD files are indeed used by brands as patterns guiding the manufacture of the chassis of their smartphones. These files therefore represent a faithful imprint of their design and can be used, when they leak on the net, to produce very precise 3D renderings of devices that have not yet been marketed. In the case of the iPhone 15, these renders were made by the 3D artist Ian Zelbo.
A design in slight evolution… but important novelties
What we see first is that the iPhone 15 would abandon the notch of previous models to adopt the Dynamic Island that was found only on the iPhone 14 Pro. Clearly, this year 2023 would mark the general abandonment of the notch on Apple smartphones, 6 years following its appearance in 2017 on the iPhone X. This track had already been mentioned for a while, here it is corroborated.
Another novelty for the iPhone 15, the default switch to a screen diagonal of 6.2 inches, slightly larger than on the iPhone 14 (6.1 inches). We don’t know at this stage the definition and the refresh rate of this new screen, but it’s a safe bet that Apple will stick to the current specifications (2532 x 1170 pixels, 60 Hz, no Always-on function).

Apple would also keep the location of the rear cameras and the design of the island dedicated to the sensors identical. The presence of the LiDAR sensor and a third photo module seems to be, however, once more this year, reserved for the Pro versions of the device, underlines 9to5Mac.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Pro would, however, be the first iPhones to adopt the USB-C standard. The CAD files obtained by the specialized site are indeed in line with many rumors predicting the adoption of universal connectivity instead of the proprietary Lightning port. Good news since USB-C supports a higher charging speed and much faster transfer speeds than Lightning.
Last point, only the iPhone 15 Pro would benefit from capacitive (touch) side controls. The “classic” iPhone 15s would retain physical buttons.
