“We keep them on a stretcher”: patients delayed in their discharge since Friday in the Gassin emergency room

This is the observation drawn up on Sunday morning by Doctor Philippe Garitaine, head of the emergency department and president of the CME (establishment medical commission). Finally, following insisting, the practitioner was heard and the situation returned to normal during the day.

But initially, the management, alerted, did not find a solution, knowing that the requests for a blank plan or for deviation of the flow, so as not to add arrivals, were refused.

“We can’t wait for Monday”

The platform dedicated to medical transport might not find an ambulance available, despite reminders.

“We can’t wait for Monday, Sunday is a day like any other“, insists the doctor, recalling that if the winter flow is less in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, we must nevertheless properly welcome the patients who present and not add to their management a concern of waiting.

Gassin’s emergencies are subject to regular difficulties (lack of staff, cost of living in the sector, summer tourism) and have even had to close certain nights, due to lack of sufficient human resources. This was the case for example in November, between 9 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. (except for life-threatening emergencies).

A situation mentioned during the wishes, those of the establishment as well as the town halls concerned. The guard house installed in the summer in Saint-Tropez aims, for example, to partially relieve the Gassin site.
