Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian considered the Munich International Security Conference an opportunity to explain the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressing hope that the Vienna negotiations between Iran and the “4+1” group would lead to a good agreement in the near future.
In a statement he made on Friday when he entered the headquarters of the Munich International Security Conference, Abdollahian considered this conference an opportunity to explain foreign policy and announce the regional positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He said that the visit to Munich comes to participate in the International Conference on Security and is an opportunity to explain the foreign policy adopted by the people’s government in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In parallel, Abdollahian added, the regional positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran were announced in light of the crises facing the West Asian region, and of course we focus on the issue of negotiations to abolish the embargo on our agenda.
“We hope that the negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the countries of the “4 + 1″ group in Vienna will reach a good agreement soon,” the foreign minister said. At the stage following reaching a good agreement, we need to have talks with various countries to be ready for all parties to return to their commitments and implement the agreements contained in the 2015 nuclear agreement.
He added, “Part of these meetings and talks, in parallel with explaining the new government’s foreign policy and regional and international issues, relate to the issue of international cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the development of economic relations with the world.”
“Of course, in the Vienna negotiations we are still facing some unresolved issues, as Mr. Bagheri and my colleagues in Vienna continue the negotiations seriously and with the aim of reaching a good agreement,” the Iranian foreign minister said.
In response to a question regarding his opinion of lifting the embargo and bringing the negotiating parties to an agreement, Abdollahian said that what is related to the Islamic Republic of Iran are the effective initiatives that it has put on the negotiating table. We are facing a good agreement that is at hand very soon, but it is the Western parties that have to take the initiative and show real flexibility on their own, and they can determine the negotiations to reach a result in the next few days or a few weeks.
It is noteworthy that the eighth round of negotiations in Vienna between Iran and the “4 + 1” group, which began on December 27 and was interrupted for 11 days, is still ongoing at various levels.
