“We had to take a crate of beer out of his car”

Marthe, a 23-year-old cyclist, was killed years ago in a serious traffic accident in Roeselare on the night of Friday to Saturday, indicates the Kortrijk section of the West Flanders prosecutor’s office. She was hit by a drunk driver.

The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. The victim, from Roeselare, was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle. Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save her.

The prosecution appointed a traffic expert to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident. According to the first conclusions, an unsuitable speed is at the origin of the accident. The driver, a 24-year-old man, reportedly missed his turn for this reason. He was also found drunk driving, arrested and heard during the day.

“We heard a boom. We turned around and saw that something very serious had happened. We went straight to see, but the victim was already bleeding internally. My boyfriend calmed down the motorist who hit the girl. He was in shock and directly confessed that he had been drinking. We had to take a crate of beer out of his car, ”she recalls.
