The plane landed as normal at 1:10 p.m., the West police district reports. One of the passengers on board was the humorist Viggo Venn.
– We felt it move a little and looked out the window, and saw that the propeller started to stop. Afterwards, the captain said in a steady voice that they train a lot on this in the simulator, he adds VG.
The police received a report about the incident at 12.50. The emergency services moved out, and emergency measures were implemented at the airport before landing, says operations manager Eirik Loftesnes at the West police district.
He confirms that it was a passenger plane from Widerøe that had engine problems. According to Avinor, the plane was on its way to Bergen from Ålesund.
– Along the way, our pilots received an indication of a technical error. They have procedures to follow, and in this case that meant they chose to turn off one engine. So it was a controlled action, says communications manager Catharina Solli in Widerøe Bergens Tidende.
– The captain now has a debrief with the passengers inside the airport, so that they get an explanation of what happened and why we chose to do it, says Solli.
Both the police, the fire service and ambulances moved out – a so-called triple alert – to Bergen Airport when the message came, but the landing itself took place in an undramatic manner.
The Widerøe plane was set up with three more flights on Saturday, but now a spare machine is being deployed instead. The incident has no consequences for Widerøe’s other flights.
