The Alpes-Maritimes department was placed on level 1 alert for an episode of atmospheric ozone pollution on Monday. This episode should continue this Tuesday.
Lower top speeds
Result, several emergency measures have been triggered. Among them, some concern the industrial sector, in particular the Grasse basin and perfumery companies. Or the residential and tertiary sector with very specific measures, such as suspending the use of non-efficient biomass combustion devices or generators.
But the transport sector is also concerned. So, the maximum authorized speeds are lowered by 20km/hwithout however going below 70km/h.
Why are these measures taken?
The high temperatures of recent days favor photochemistry and therefore the formation of ozone from precursor pollutants emitted into the atmosphere, recalls the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes. Little wind causes a accumulation of pollutants in the air.
Ozone concentrations will be high throughout the region. In the Alpes-Maritimes, ozone concentrations rose faster than expected on Sunday.
