“We expect the state to play its role”

Uber drivers are unhappy with their working conditions. The lawyer for some of them is asking for more firmness from the State of Geneva.

Me Anne Meier begins by explaining that her clients come to see her, telling her that the agreement that is in the pipeline does not allow them to be paid with dignity. “They are paid with a slingshot”, she describes, specifying that many points linked to salary arrears and to allowances and social charges must be resolved.

“We expect the State to play its role as a State” – Me Anne Meier

The lawyer is waiting for the case to be settled by an actor, the State of Geneva: “We expect the State to play its role”. What is this role? Me Anne Meier sees a clear answer to this question. For her, it is a question of “executing the decision of the Federal Court” which confirms that currently Uber does not respect the law.

A lack of transparency mentioned

Some Uber drivers are misunderstood, to the point of not knowing what they can claim. “My customers have the impression that no one has been transparent with them”, explains Me Anne Meier who is surprised at the course of this affair: “We let Uber offer things, when it is up to the State to law enforcement”.
