Marine Serre is a young fashion designer from Corrèze at the head ofa company that generates 95% of its turnover abroad. This 32-year-old Frenchwoman dresses Rihanna, Beyonce, Dua Lipa, Yseult, Michelle Obama… Of her, Karl Lagerfeld said: “Marine Serre, one meter and fifty centimeters, but an iron will”. She doesn’t know if it’s specific to fashion, but for her: « You have to be a bit of a bulldozer in life if you want to change things. My bulldozer side comes from the fact that I don’t change my mind easily. Above all, I really like to give meaning to things and to what I do, even if it means taking risks, doing things that don’t make sense, doing up cycling. »

I like to breathe new life into something that has lost its usefulness and meaning. We don’t look at our grandfather’s old key rings anymore, for example. That’s luxury: taking care of old objects like bed sheets, our grandmother’s curtains, or old recovered blankets. We don’t realize it, but the know-how linked to these ancient embroideries has disappeared. My job is to see what is already there and transform it as little as possible so that we can wear it. It’s almost the material that will inspire the garment! »

A not free process

Even if the objects are based on clothing or antique objects, they are not free. Marine Serre: “You have to find the people who collect them. And then, you have to treat them, detach them… The prices of my dresses range from €300 to €20,000. »
