“We do not see this peace process with good eyes”: Western Front of the ELN

In a statement, the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group expressed its doubts and questions regarding Petro’s “Total Peace” proposal.

The statement comes following the attack that left nine Army soldiers dead. In said statement, the ELN wondered if this peace model includes structural transformations of the State necessary to build a fairer country for all Colombians, or if it is another version of the neoliberal peace model whose sole purpose is to silence the weapons of the THE N.

The ELN also criticized the government for not having taken sufficient steps to guarantee changes that put an end to the real causes that gave rise to the internal armed conflict and an end to political violence as a tool to annihilate any voice dissonant with the State model in Colombia.

In addition, the guerrilla group expressed its disappointment over the broken promises of the government, including a political, health and pension reform in favor of the great economic empires, and basic issues such as employment, education and housing.

«As the Western War Front Omar Gómez we do not see this peace process with good eyes and every day we have more questions and uncertainties. Deeds are needed more than words, speeches and good intentions,” the ELN said in the statement.

The guerrilla group questioned President Petro’s Total Peace policy, asking how real this policy is and if this is really the government that wants Colombia to become a world power of life. The ELN also questioned whether the government will go down in Colombian history as the government of deceit, which stained its flags with the blood of social leaders and betrayed the desire of the poor and hard-working people to build a better Colombia.

Consultation

The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, convened a consultation meeting with the government delegation at the dialogue table with the National Liberation Army (ELN), guarantor and accompanying countries, following the recent attack in Catatumbo that left as a balance the death of 9 soldiers.

The Head of State scheduled the meeting for next Monday with the delegation, the guarantor and accompanying countries, in which the decisions that will be made regarding the recent events will be evaluated.
