The President Nicolas Madurostated that as head of government he does not practice “microphone diplomacy” but rather prudence in issues involving other countries, when asked about the statement issued by Brazil, Mexico and Colombia on the situation in Venezuela following the election results of July 28.
He said that Foreign Minister Yván Gil is in constant communication with these three governments, and that they do not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.
“I do not practice microphone diplomacy, we are prudent and we practice prudence (…) a conversation with the three presidents is pending,” he said upon leaving the summons made to him by the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice.
He said that a call was pending with the three presidents (Petro, Lula and López Obrador), “I was ready on the phone at 5pm, I think on Monday, waiting, and half an hour later they told me that due to a scheduling problem it couldn’t be done,” and he added that he told the foreign ministries that he is waiting 24 hours a day to talk.
On the other hand, he pointed out that Venezuela’s relations with the US “are not easy because there is a power vacuum in the United States,” although he affirmed that “we will always be ready to talk, I would tell whoever is in charge in the US that our destiny has to be to understand each other, they cannot continue to underestimate Chavismo or give the baton of command to the extreme right.”
Regarding the statements of spokespeople for the Carter Center, he reiterated that the CNE is under cyber attack. “The Carter Center has no capacity to say the nonsense that it has said that the Venezuelan system was not subject to cyber attack. The Carter Center has said goodbye through the sad door of lies in this electoral history.”
He rejected the call made by the government of Panama for a regional summit to discuss the Venezuelan issue and demanded that its president, José Raúl Mulino, respect the country.
