The senator first reacted to government announcements on Monday which indicated that he had identified “at least 10 billion euros in savings” to allow France to redress degraded accounts.
For Philippe Tabarot, Senator LR of the Alpes-Maritimes, “what makes you smile”is that it is this “government that has strongly accentuated these sad records”. He asks that these savings “do not take place on the backs of local communities” specifying: “It would be good for the State to apply to itself what it wishes to see communities do”.
For this, he took the example of the government’s announcement of a general increase coupled with a targeted increase for the lowest paid agents, but which is “supported by communities”.
Helping households outside EPZs
The senator returned to the report in which he proposes a list of 9 proposals to “break the impasse” on the issue of Low Emission Zones (ZFE).
For Philippe Tabarot, “imposing the use of clean vehicles generates a cost for many households“ and we “lack of alternatives to the individual car”without counting “the cost of a new vehicle”.
It recommends the establishment of aid for people “who have a remainder to finance which is too important to make this transition to electric or second-hand”. In the report, it is regarding“exclusion sociale” and D’“injustice”.
For the elected official, people outside the EPZs have been forgotten. “They cannot be helped by the Metropolises because they are outside. We must target them more, target low-income households”.
The senator calls on Christophe Béchu, the Minister for Ecological Transition to take over the text and its proposals if he wishes.
“We are not questioning the public health problem, on the other hand there is a social acceptability that must be accompanied”wishes to clarify the guest.
An “unsustainable” schedule
At the question “why is it so hard to set up” while other countries have succeeded, Philippe Tabarot explains that this transition took regarding twenty years and that we must achieve it in five years.
“Do we have the capacity within 3 years to replace 13 million thermal cars?” The schedule is “untenable” according to the senator. And to ask that the calendar be postponed.
“We went to Marseille and we realized that in the 3rd arrondissement, the poorest in France, 52% of people will have to change their vehicle”he illustrates.
For the chosen one, it’s necessary “move gradually, support people. That automotive production can ramp up”.
He also suggests that decisions be taken region by region, to adapt to the specificities of each.
And to conclude: “We cannot put in place bans when alternative offers do not exist”.
