Santiago de Chile, March 11 (EFE).- The new president of Chile, the progressive Gabriel Boric, stressed this Friday his “commitment” to make Chile a better place during his first official speech following taking office.

“I want you to know that we did not come here just to fill positions, to generate unattainable distances, but to give ourselves body and soul to the commitment to make our country better,” he proclaimed from a balcony in the Palacio de La Moneda, seat of government, before the applause of thousands of people.

At 36 years old, the former deputy and former student leader became this Friday the youngest and most voted president in the history of the country and the first president outside the great coalitions of the center that governed the last 30 years.
