In a press eager for the slightest rumor regarding Rockstar’s announced future blockbuster, the announcement that GTA V will have a sequel – something we have known for almost two years and which was beyond any doubt – is ready to smile. As it stands, we still know nothing.

Incredible: the second best-selling video game in history will have a sequel. In an industry that lives for that, this is quite a surprise. For the past forty-eight hours, we should have been miming astonishment, getting carried away, jumping up and down. Firstly because Rockstar was regarding to announce GTA VI – boom, an article. Then when the studio confirmed that it will indeed release a trailer in December – boom, a second article. And then all this also gives the opportunity to explain why “everyone” is waiting for the new Grand Theft Auto like the messiah – boom, a third article regarding nothing or almost nothing. Magic of the circularity of information, the press feeds itself on the basis of a simple rumor. Certainly well informed this time – at the same time, it comes from Bloomberg, the last American mass media or almost to still place a few posts on video game journalism when the atmosphere is rather one of clear cuts everywhere else – but how often do the sites “specialists” made the headlines on this same rumor of an imminent possible announcement… followed by nothing at all.
