“We are working on a new formula”: Nuud deodorant withdrawn from the market because of painful cysts

Be careful if you use Nuud deodorants! The Dutch brand’s products must be withdrawn from the market due to painful cysts occurring in people who used them. The announcement was made by the National Medicines Agency (ANSM) this Wednesday.

According to the ANSM, the dosage form of this deodorant, a predominantly fatty ointment “which would promote the obstruction of the pores of the armpits with the possibility of microbial superinfection, through an occlusive effect”, may be responsible for this undesirable effect.

After discussions with the manufacturer, its marketing was temporarily suspended and all lots available at points of sale have been withdrawn from the market, as well as those available from distributors.

The medicines agency specifies that users have reported “adverse effects such as painful cysts in the armpits, sometimes accompanied by an infection treated with antibiotics”. In most reported cases, the cysts disappeared following stopping use of the product or taking prescribed treatments.

On the Nuud website, manufactured by a Dutch company very active on social networks, it is indicated that the deodorant is “temporarily unavailable”. “We are working on a new formula,” it is stated. The ingredients included in the composition of Nuud deodorant are not individually considered to be the cause of the reported adverse effects.

Nuud products are sold mainly on the Internet or via social networks, but it is also possible to obtain them in stores or drugstores. The brand prides itself on being vegan, highly effective thanks to a patented formula, with sustainable production and distribution.
