As a sign that The ELN does not have the power it claims to have with its terrorist attacks, The governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona, arrived at the exact place where, on Thursday night, Men from this guerrilla group burned a public service bus and three tractor-trailers, causing fear and anxiety on the main road that connects Medellín with the Atlantic Coast.
“We are watching a movie that we had already seen 20 years ago and that we thought we had surpassed. Emboldened bandits, disguising themselves as rebels, as counterinsurgents, but behind the capture of criminal income,” said Governor Rendón.
The “movie” Rendón is talking about was presented after 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 29 in the sector known as Las Crucecitas in the municipality of Valdivia. Several armed men threatened the passengers of a bus and its driver. They forced them to get out of the vehicle and then set it on fire.

After that, the tractor-trailers that were nearby were also burned. Witnesses to the gruesome scene told Governor Rendón what happened next.
“A lady was dragged out from there. They were going to shoot her. She was left here, right at the foot of the bus. She was left in front of it,” they said.

In response to the complaints, Rendón reiterated that Soldiers and police must be surrounded and protected, whom he described as the only “hope we have left.”
“The Public Force is our only hope, our soldiers and police; and I invite you to go out and patrol the roads, kilometer by kilometer, as we did in the worst times; But we need to restore peace to the citizens and breathe down the throat of the bandits,” he said vehemently.
He also invited the citizens commit to the security of the territory and become “the eyes and ears of the Public Force in every corner of Antioquia.”
“How sad this is, good people. Their only means of livelihood and these bandits come to harm them,” he concluded.
