“We are particularly happy to innovate once again, it will help our customers”

We told you regarding it last month, it is now a reality. Since the beginning of May, Proximus has started equipping its customers with a new b-box. The latter is intended to be more efficient but, above all, incorporates the Wi-Fi 6 standard. “We are paving the way for faster, smarter, safer and more energy-efficient Wi-Fi”, indicates the operator.

In practice, however, it should be borne in mind that this gain in speed will not be felt by customers. The real difference, and the advantage of this new router, lies in its ability to manage a large number of connected devices. “Wi-Fi 6 is less affected by other Wi-Fi networks,” explained Haroun Fenaux, spokesperson for Proximus, to Geeko. “Connection time is also improved as there is less wait time when many devices access the Wi-Fi 6 router simultaneously”

If this Proximus proposal therefore has the merit of existing, it is however necessary to ensure that your various devices are indeed Wi-Fi 6 compatible.

“We know how important having a fast and reliable Wi-Fi connection is for our customers. We are therefore particularly pleased to innovate once once more by introducing our first Wi-Fi 6 Internet Box. This smart technology will enable Proximus customers to surf the web up to 40% faster, while reducing the time required to connect of their devices. Furthermore, this new Wi-Fi standard will increase the coverage of Internet networks and greatly reduce energy consumption – a point that is particularly close to our hearts. Our new repeaters and Internet boxes with Wi-Fi 6 and Mesh technology (so-called “Mesh” technology consists of a set of Wi-Fi terminals that communicate with each other in a “mesh” topology. The entire mesh thus created dynamically adapts to the needs in terms of data volumes by distributing the load intelligently to guarantee stability and maximum throughput with more extensive coverage than ever and this in a 100% transparent way for the user, editor’s note) are, in a initially, integrated into the offers for new Flex Fiber customers, but will be gradually added to our other offers, so that all our customers can ultimately benefit from them”, explains Guillaume Boutin, Managing Director of the Proximus Group.

A reserved offer

For customers who wish to obtain this new b-box, please note that the new box is – initially – reserved for new customers opting for the largest “fiber optic” or “copper (VDSL)” pack. For people who already have a subscription, Proximus specifies that they can receive it free of charge by choosing to take the largest “optical fiber” or “copper (VDSL)” pack. In summary, the new b-box will be free for all eligible packs.

For the others, it will be necessary to arm yourself with a little patience – since no date has been confirmed by the operator (this might be done following June 2022) – and above all to get your hands on the wallet. Proximus has already announced that people who want to acquire this new b-box without changing their subscription will have to pay. How much ? No amount has been advanced at this time.
