The head of the Finance and Budget Committee, Ibrahim Kanaan, considered that “the acquittal of the Lebanese state by the person of its governments is impossible,” noting that “those governments were the ones that spent without financial accounts, and this means that there are huge transgressions that brought us to where we are.”
In an interview with Al-Jadeed channel, Kanaan explained that, “He was the spearhead in the House of Representatives on the issue of auditing financial accounts and we prevented settlement at that time.” He added: “The executive authority is required to respect the law and the House of Representatives, and it considers itself above the law.”
And he added, “All the affected political forces worked to improve the $27 billion file by exerting influence and pressure on the judiciary.”
Regarding the elections file, Kanaan said: “We are going to the end with the issue of the parliamentary elections.” The process of Aoun’s awakening is underway and the electoral atmosphere is positively reflected and serves us, and there is a possibility to achieve our past numbers.”
He continued: “My main project, if I gain the confidence of the people in the elections, is to work on implementing the expanded administrative and financial decentralization so that the northern Matn can contribute to the development of its towns and secure the needs of its people.”
In financial affairs, Kanaan said: “The main node of the 2022 budget is to determine the value of taxes on the exchange rate, while the state’s obligations and pensions are still at 1500. As for the capital control, it must be accompanied by a specific deadline for freezing depositors’ funds, and the authority should not be discretionary with a committee specific”.
He continued, “The IMF negotiations will be completed, and a law has been passed to lift banking secrecy from the public sector, and 90% of the budget has been completed.”
And he concluded: “The nation does not live without all its children, and during my career I did my convictions, and the Free Patriotic Movement was founded by General Michel Aoun, and it is capable of development.”
