We are creating a new NHS that will address every medical need no matter how serious 2024-05-13 07:40:38

Kyriakos Mitsotakis was informed about the two major projects being implemented in “Attikon”, with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, in the context of the wider upgrading of public health structures in our country.

After the completion of his visit, the Prime Minister emphasized: “One of the big stakes of the second four-year period of the New Democracy is the radical modernization of the basic infrastructure of the National Health System. And indeed, with the resources of the Recovery Fund, very important interventions are currently being made throughout the territory, from our large hospitals to small health centers, with projects that have already begun and are being delivered and will be essentially completed within the next two years.

Here, at the “Attiko” Hospital, a university hospital, “flagship” for the entire basin, a very important intervention takes place in the emergency departments. Because I completely understand the – I would say – anger, often, of the citizens at the way they saw the infrastructure, especially in the emergency departments, which I don’t think was equivalent to a 21st century National Health System.

So here too we are making a significant intervention in the emergency departments, essentially doubling the surface area and at the same time creating very modern infrastructure to be able to treat any incident as quickly as possible, no matter how serious it may be.

Today, May 9, is Europe Day. And since in a month from now we will have European elections, it is good to remember the European footprint of our country’s participation in the European family, which we see in practice here at the “Attica” Hospital.

The Recovery Fund, 36 billion euros, is just one, important, of the many financial tools, which our country uses for interventions in a wide range of objects. And I think it is always good to reflect on how much we benefit from our country’s participation in the big European family, in the European Union, and why what is happening in Europe concerns us.

They concern us all and this is another reason why participation in the European elections on June 9th is of such special importance.

Congratulations again to TAIPED, the Ministry, the Hospital for this excellent cooperation. And I really believe that in two years from now, when all the interventions that are launched will be completed, the citizens will be able to really be convinced that we are working intensively to create a new National Health System. A National Health System that they deserve and that can deal with their every medical need, no matter how serious it is.”

The first project, which is almost completed, concerns the complete renovation of the Psychiatry-Pediatric Psychiatry clinic, the renovation of all public bathrooms and major interventions in the facilities that house the outpatient clinics and three more clinics, Pulmonology, Cardiosurgery and Vascular Surgery.

The second project promotes the multi-level upgrade of the hospital’s emergency department (ED), based on the new standards of the Ministry of Health. In addition to the building and electromechanical modernization of the department, in the context of which the complete reconstruction and rearrangement of all the rooms is foreseen, the expansion of the TEP by approximately 465 square meters has also been planned. The goal is to develop the TEP into a level 4 trauma center, which will be able to handle even the most serious incidents.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis was informed about the temporary relocation of the TEP to another place, the studies that have been done, the execution of the preliminary works and the implementation schedule, which provides for the completion of all works at the end of the year.

The Prime Minister was welcomed and informed about the progress of the projects by the Deputy Ministers of Health Dimitris Vartzopoulos and Marios Themistokleous, the Authorized Advisor of TAIPED Panagiotis Stamboulidis and the Commander of PGN “Attikon”, Spyros Apostolopoulos.

Earlier, Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Daphni Monastery, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is considered the most important monument of the middle Byzantine period in Attica.

The Prime Minister was informed by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni and officials of the Ephorate of Antiquities about the restoration and maintenance projects that have been carried out, funded by the NSRF, as well as the planning for new projects.

In addition, he was informed about the progress of the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministries of Culture and Climate Crisis and Civil Protection – to which the Daphni Monastery has joined – with the aim of shielding archaeological sites against natural hazards, mainly fire, and threats related to the effects of climate change, as well as the review and strengthening of civil protection plans.

Afterwards, Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Diomedes Botanical Garden, where he was guided by the financial and administrative head of the Garden, Stelios Soulios, and was informed about the educational programs and actions that are organized with a view to informing and raising awareness of the public, especially the new generation, about the protection of the natural environment.
