The furniture chain Ikea Belgium on Monday demanded that the Vlaams Belang (extreme right) stop using its brand and corporate identity in its propaganda for a tougher migration policy.
Ikea Belgium is examining whether additional steps are necessary, a spokesperson told Belga. Earlier in the day, the far-right Flemish party had presented a plan entitled “Ikea” (for “Immigratie Kan Echt Anders”, or “immigration can really be decided otherwise”) using the logo of the chain born in Sweden.
“We are angry that our right to our brand and corporate identity is being violated”reacted Ikea. “We try to take a position of political neutrality and we don’t want our brand to be used to suggest that we would support certain positions when we don’t.”
